My Men
I've always been proud of my sons, or my men as I call them. I know all mothers love their children... ok maybe not all mothers but most... but today I had a reason to be especially proud of them. We had a client sign up with us today. She's in danger of losing her house but she doesn't know why and when we told her why, it was as if we hit her in the head with a bat.
The husband and I are foreclosure specialists. He does the numbers and the talking and I do everything else. I really don't like the job. I find it too heartbreaking but the husband needs a clerical person and I work for free.
Back to the client. Some history first. She's Nigerian, with five grown children and a house here in the states as well as a house in Nigeria. Her husband was a multi millionaire only he died without a will 18 months ago. Apparently her husband did everything for her and even though she has two masters degrees she has never paid a bill in her life. She has homes in America and Nigeria, kids in school around the world and her house here if facing foreclosure.
The woman doesn't even know what her mortgage payment is because she's still not paying the bills. She has her oldest daughter taking care of that with money that the mom sends her every month. Some months the daughter said the mortgage payment was 6,000.0 or 9,000.00 or whatever and the mom would not believe that mortgage payments don't fluctuate like that month to month.
Well, the mom gave us her daughters username and password for her daughter's checking account. I could only print our two months but was it an eye opener, In those two months her mother wired her $31,000.00 for that non existant fluctuating mortgage payment and just the run of the mill bills, plus money to live on. However daughter found better things to do with the money.... $4,500.00 spent on two nights at a club, $500.00 spent at a sunglass store, $2,000.00 to rent a cadilac during one of her three, not to mention shoes and makeup and clothes and a $2,000.0 cell phone bill. As I said, mom looked as if she had been hit in the head and it took her some time to digest all of what we told her. After she and my husband conducted their business and she was waiting for her son to show up to take her home, she talked to me. First I gave her a cup of tea and my dark choclate dove bar and once she cleared her head she just talked. She and her husband had given her children everything and since her husband had died she shared everything with the kids but after a life where they got whatever they wanted whenever they wanted I doubt that they really know what life is like. Her kids have never had a job, never had to earn their own money and so with this daughter the money ran through her fingers and the mom feels royally betrayed.
My husband can save her house for her. With all the money she has, the repayment of the back payments isn't much. She kept asking me why her daughter did what she did and while I wanted to tell the woman she had raised a spoiled brat, I softened my words telling her that her daughter spent like that to mask the pain of her father's death. I don't know if that's true but the mom couldn't take much more. Mom said that the daughter ran through $48,000 plus dollars in the past 6 months. I think mom underestimated. So after trying to console the mother for an hour or more my oldest son called to tell me that he had ordered pizza and was paying for dinner. He bought the special and was proud at the money he saved
Life has never been easy for us, money always just dancing out of reach leaving me never knowing what was being paid when and if there was enough for food. My sons have seen how hard life has been. The younger son now has a full time job but still does data entry for the business because we get our clients through mailings. I have no idea how many weeks of pays we owe him but he keeps working to keep the business going. And this woman's daughter is throwing money away.
I know how lucky I am to have the sons that I have and I've told them so. They see nothing special in how they are or what they do but I do. And I love them all the more for it.
